Duk Point Beach Cleanup & BBQ
As part of the Washington Coast Cleanup held on Earth Day, a Saturday in late April each year, and thanks to the cooperation of Olympic NP, Green Crow Corp. and inholders, we're able to drive to this remote wilderness beach via the Mainline and Seafield Lake Roads north of Ozette. Duk Point beaches extend 3 miles south of Seafield Creek to the mouth of the Ozette River, and 2 miles north to Point of the Arches. We meet at Ozette Ranger Station at 8:30 am and car-pool out the gated Mainline and Seafield Roads to Duk Point.
Washington CoastSavers honored FONP efforts with its 2015 CoastSaver of the Year Award. FONP hosts an annual barbeque for all Ozette area cleanup volunteers at the Ozette Ranger Station from 3 to 6 pm.
Visitors Center Cleanups
Each spring in March, Friends and park staff gather to clean up the grounds around the Port Angeles Visitor Center and adjoining Discover your Northwest office. In 2019, as the Main Visitor Center had recently undergone renovation, the cleanup was focused on the Administrative Office surroundings. An enthusiastic group gathered to prune, weed and mulch the area, resulting in dramatic aesthetic results!
Perspectives and Friends Programs
FONP membership meetings are held in March and October of each year. These meetings include a State of the Park Address, and we present our "Most Inspirational Friend" as well as "Most Inspirational Park Employee" awards. After the busy summer season, we co-sponsor a picnic for Park Volunteers and present a Youth Service Award. Each winter, we co-sponsor the Park's Perspectives Series. In addition, we organize a summer Wildflower Walk, an autumn Mushroom Walk, special tours of Park sites and work parties throughout the year.
